Teen girl murders her dad and special-needs brother, nearly kills 2-year-old sister

RENO, NV – The chilling case of a 17-year-old girl charged with the murders of her father and younger brother has taken an even darker turn. Court records reveal that Mashenka Reid of Reno, Nevada, also contemplated murdering her 2-year-old sister during her violent outburst. The revelations come amid reports that Reid was battling emotional distress following her mother’s departure from the family.

During a police interview, Reid admitted to locking her toddler sister in a room and then shooting her father and autistic younger brother with her father’s gun. But when she attempted to access her two-year-old sister’s room, she failed.

Police reports quote Reid as saying she had intentions to either shoot or stab her 2-year-old sister had she managed to enter the room. She also mentioned having a knife on the washer and dryer, which she planned to “utilize to kill.”

Following the murders, Reid contemplated suicide but believed that she deserved a punishing fate, the report indicated.

Further chilling details surrounding the double murder emerged from the court filing. Reid apparently asked her father to run a pizza ingredient errand to gain time to familiarize herself with his handgun, a Walther PPS. She admitted to learning the basics of firearm handling from her father a year or two ago and consulted internet resources to understand switching off the safety and loading ammunition.

Once her father returned home, Reid met him at the garage door and shot him twice or thrice from a two-arm-length distance, leading to his immediate death. She then executed her younger brother, who was absorbed in play on the couch, with two shots to his head.
She made a distress call to 911 to report her actions, stating, “I shot my dad. I shot my brother. My brother is dead.”

When questioned about the motivation behind the shocking violence, Reid referred to her mother’s departure from the family in December, which left her feeling depressed. Additionally, Reid was tasked with the care of her two siblings during her father’s school hours, which contributed to growing anger and frustration, especially from listening to her brother’s screams.

Reid also admitted to viewing YouTube videos that kindled her violent urges towards torture.

Reid is facing two counts of open murder as well as one count of attempted murder with a deadly weapon. Her trial is set to begin as an adult. Her bond hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
