Teen sentenced for disturbing carjacking that severed old woman’s arm and killed her

NEW ORLEANS, LA – An 18-year-old male, John Honore, was sentenced to life imprisonment in connection with the carjacking and subsequent death of 73-year-old Linda Frickey in Louisiana last year. The sentencing was handed down on Friday to the relief of the victim’s family.

The chilling incident happened in March 2022, when Frickey was loading her car outside a business premises in New Orleans’ Mid-City neighborhood. Honore, accompanied by three underage female accomplices, attacked and attempted to carjack Frickey.

According to reports, as Honore took control of the vehicle, Frickey was caught by the vehicle’s wheel well. She was dragged nearly a block before her arm was severed by a utility pole, and her clothes were torn from her body. Frickey was discovered lying in the middle of the road, suffering from severe injuries, including a torn aorta, broken collarbone, ribs, and vertebrae. She died at the scene.

After a seven-hour trial, a jury found Honore guilty of the crime on November 27, 2023. The defendant described the fatal carjacking as the “biggest mistake of my life” in a handwritten apology to Frickey’s family. However, he will have the chance for parole in 25 years due to his age of 17 at the time of the crime.

The three underage females involved in the incident, Briniyah Baker, 17, Lenyra Theophile, 16, and Mar’qel Curtis, have already been sentenced to 20 years in prison each after accepting a plea deal in November.
