Teenager turns himself in after Valentine’s Day shooting at high school

ATLANTA, GA – The juvenile suspected of a Valentine’s Day shooting at an Atlanta high school parking lot that injured four students has turned himself into the Atlanta Police Department (APD), according to officials.

The suspect, a 14-year-old student whose identity remains undisclosed due to his age, faces multiple charges. These include four counts of aggravated assault, one count of firearm possession by a minor, and one count of firearm possession on school premises.

The shooting incident took place on school grounds around 4 p.m., coinciding with Atlanta Public Schools Police responding to reports of an altercation. According to the school’s Police Chief, Ronald Applin, the officers present immediately attended to the wounded students.

The victims, identified as three 17-year-old students and one 18-year-old, all male, sustained injuries that were described as non-life-threatening. They received treatment at Grady Hospital.

Atlanta’s Mayor Andre Dickens, himself an alumnus of the school, expressed his dismay at the tragic event. He emphasized the need to protect the school’s reputation amidst such circumstances.

The arrest of the suspect is attributable to the collaborative efforts of the Atlanta Public Schools Police and the APD, with the latter agency leading the ongoing investigation, according to an official statement from Atlanta Public Schools.
