Texas County Official Warns Fires Could Rage for Days – Urgent Call for Donations and Support

Pampa, Texas – A looming threat of ongoing fires has gripped Gray County, with Emergency Management Coordinator Troy Schwiegerath warning that the blaze could persist for days. Situated northeast of Amarillo, the region is facing an uphill battle against the growing fires as adverse weather conditions complicate firefighting efforts.

Schwiegerath expressed concerns about the prolonged nature of the fires, stating, “It’s going to burn forever. We’re going to have three more days of fire.” Despite the daunting situation, the Texas Forest Service has mobilized a significant presence to aid in combating the flames.

The recent halt in strong winds provided firefighters with a window of opportunity to strategize and successfully protect the city of Pampa from the encroaching fires. However, neighboring towns were not as fortunate, suffering losses in livestock, vegetation, and infrastructure.

Miraculously, Gray County has reported no injuries or fatalities as a result of the fires, though the extent of the damage is yet to be fully assessed. Schwiegerath highlighted the need for support, emphasizing the importance of cash donations, feed, hay, and fencing materials to aid in the recovery process.

Given the significant impact on the local cattle industry, the loss of livestock remains a pressing concern for residents. Efforts are underway to establish a system for receiving donations and coordinating relief efforts as the community grapples with the aftermath of the devastating fires in Gray County.
