OMAHA, NE – A 10-year-old boy was shot at a residence near 31st & Myrtle streets, leading to his father’s arrest, Omaha Police Department confirmed. The deadly incident took place at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, leaving young Kendrick McDonald with a lethal gunshot wound. Despite being rushed to the hospital after the shooting, he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
Omaha Police captured the child’s 47-year-old father, Will McDonald. Charges against him include criminal homicide, using a weapon to commit a felony, as well as the possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
Captain Jeremy Christensen of the Omaha Police Department commented on the devastating incident. He confirmed that various eyewitnesses who were in the house at the time of the fatal gunfire were taken in for questioning.
Speculating on what might have triggered the incident, Captain Christensen mentioned a car alarm going off at the scene, hinting at a possible car theft in progress. However, he admitted that investigators have yet to determine the exact sequence of events.
In an evening marred by tragedy and loss, the heartrending ordeal of a child killed on Thanksgiving night and his father’s ensuing arrest shocked the community. While expressing deep sorrow over the event, Captain Christensen declared, “Anytime anyone is killed, this is extremely tragic. But this is heartbreaking.”
