Two Dead, Infant Critical After Northwest Houston Murder-Suicide

Police said the child’s father opened fire during an argument after arriving at an apartment to deliver diapers Saturday night.

HOUSTON, TX — A woman and the father of an infant are dead and the baby remains in critical condition after a shooting at a northwest Houston apartment that police are investigating as a murder-suicide.

Houston police said the shooting happened at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, in the 7700 block of Willow Chase Boulevard. Investigators said the infant’s father had gone to the apartment to bring diapers to the child’s 19-year-old mother. An argument developed between the two parents before the man opened fire, according to police.

Investigators said the man shot the 19-year-old woman’s mother, who was about 40 years old, and then shot his infant child. The baby’s mother was not wounded and was able to carry the injured child outside the apartment, police said. Authorities have not publicly released the names of the man, the woman who died or the infant.

Officers responding to the apartment found the man dead from what police described as a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Houston Police Department said the circumstances were being investigated as a murder-suicide. Police have not released additional information about what led to the argument or whether officers had previously responded to incidents involving the people at the apartment.

Officers provided emergency aid to the wounded grandmother until Houston Fire Department paramedics arrived. She and the infant were taken to a hospital, where the woman was pronounced dead. Police said the baby remained in critical condition Sunday. One report, citing police, described the infant as critical but stable.

The child’s 19-year-old mother was not physically injured in the shooting, according to investigators. Police said multiple witnesses were at or near the scene, and homicide investigators and crime scene personnel were called to process the apartment and gather evidence.

Houston Police Lt. Pulido said investigators were working Sunday to determine the full sequence of events. Police have publicly described the shooting as beginning with an argument after the father arrived to deliver diapers, but authorities have not announced a more detailed motive or released information about the family’s history.

The shooting left investigators examining a scene involving two deaths and a critically wounded infant while family members awaited information about the child’s condition. Authorities had not announced any change in the baby’s status or released the identities of those involved as of Sunday afternoon.

The Houston Police Department’s homicide division continues to investigate. No additional suspects have been announced, and police have not indicated that anyone else at the apartment was injured.
