Police are investigating the Sunday morning shooting at a South Arlington Street gas station after witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots.
AKRON, OH — A 63-year-old man was killed early Sunday in a shooting at a Circle K gas station in Akron, according to police, who are investigating what led to the gunfire.
Akron police said officers were called at about 6:33 a.m. Aug. 30 to the Circle K at 940 South Arlington St. after witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots. Officers found the man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man’s name had not been released in the reports available Monday. Police also had not announced a suspect, an arrest or a possible motive in the shooting. Authorities said the circumstances remained under investigation.
Detectives and members of the Akron Police Department’s Crime Scene Unit responded to the gas station after the shooting. Investigators processed the scene as police worked to determine what happened before the gunfire and who was responsible.
Authorities have released few details about the sequence of events. Police have not said whether the victim was inside or outside the business when he was shot, whether he knew the shooter or what may have led to the encounter. No suspect description was included in the initial information released by police.
The shooting occurred at the Circle K at 940 South Arlington St., a convenience store and gas station in Akron. Police were dispatched there after the reported gunfire early Sunday morning. The store’s address is also listed by Circle K in its directory of Akron locations.
