WESTON, FL — A Broward County elementary school administrator was arrested Sunday after an off-campus incident in Weston and is being reassigned while the school district reviews the matter, according to Broward County Public Schools and reports citing sheriff’s booking information.
Marc Horowitz, 53, an administrator at Orange Brook Elementary School in Hollywood, faces charges of robbery by sudden snatching without a firearm or weapon and battery involving domestic violence, according to booking information reported by local news organizations. Authorities had not publicly released detailed information about the circumstances leading to his arrest as of early Monday.
Broward County Public Schools said Horowitz is an assistant principal at Orange Brook Elementary and will be reassigned from the school while Human Resources conducts a review. District spokesperson John J. Sullivan said the review could result in further action, including termination. The reassignment removes Horowitz from his position at the school while officials determine what employment action, if any, should follow.
“Broward County Public Schools holds its school leaders to the highest standards of professional conduct and takes matters that may fall short of those standards seriously,” Sullivan said in a statement reported by NBC6 and CBS News Miami. The district did not announce a timetable for completing its review.
Horowitz was taken into custody in Weston on Aug. 30 and transported to the county jail, according to booking information cited by NBC6. The Broward Sheriff’s Office had not provided additional public details about the incident when the first reports were published. No account describing what authorities allege happened before the arrest was available, and the charges remain allegations unless proven in court.
The school district and Orange Brook Elementary School materials describe Horowitz’s administrative role somewhat differently. The district identified him as an assistant principal, while the school’s current website lists him as “Intern Principal.” The same school page identifies Jerelle Owens as principal for the 2026-27 school year.
Horowitz has previously worked elsewhere in Broward County Public Schools.
