SAN ANTONIO, TX – In a chilling episode in San Antonio, Texas, a man with an ankle monitor is alleged to have brutally assaulted a woman, subsequently wrapping her in plastic and leaving her in a field.
The alleged perpetrator, Roger Gonzalez, 31, was taken into custody on Saturday afternoon. The assault reportedly took place the day prior, according to the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a distress call about an injured woman found near Eichman Road around 4 p.m. on Friday. They discovered the woman in a critical condition, having been brutally beaten, stabbed multiple times, and her throat slashed.
The sheriff’s office chillingly noted on their Facebook page, “She was left for dead rolled up in plastic in a pasture.” The victim is presently listed in serious but stable condition at a hospital in San Antonio.
Investigators worked tirelessly through Friday night and Saturday morning, eventually filing a complaint and obtaining an arrest warrant for Gonzalez. The sheriff’s office confirmed that Gonzalez was wearing an ankle monitor at the time of the alleged attack.
Gonzalez was apprehended at a house on Lytle Street, coincidentally the same street where the victim lives. Local news outlet KENS5 reported that Gonzalez and the victim were romantically involved.
Gonzalez now faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a first-degree felony. His bond was initially set at $40,000, but following his arrest, a judge increased it to $275,000, according to a Facebook post by the sheriff’s office.
