CORNUDAS, TX – Laura Lynch, a founding member of the music group formerly known as the Dixie Chicks, died in a head-on car collision in Texas, according to state officials. The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed that Lynch was involved in a fatal accident approximately seven miles west of Cornudas on Friday morning. She was reportedly hit by another vehicle attempting to overtake another car on a two-way highway.
Authorities revealed that Lynch was not using a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was declared dead at the crash site. The driver who collided with Lynch’s car was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Lynch, who was 65 at the time of her death, was a key figure in the early days of the Dixie Chicks, now known as The Chicks. The band expressed their grief over Lynch’s passing in a Facebook statement, praising her contribution to the group’s initial success and her vibrant personality that added a spark to their early days.
The Chicks’ statement also highlighted Lynch’s design talent, her love for Texas, and her instrumental role in the band’s early triumphs. They extended their condolences to Lynch’s family and loved ones during this tragic time.
