Gunmen on Scooters Open Fire: 1 Dead, 3 Injured in Bronx Shooting Spree

New York City, NY – Gunmen on scooters opened fire on a group of men at a street corner in the Bronx, resulting in one fatality and three others injured, according to police reports on Tuesday night.

The incident took place at the intersection of Mount Eden and Townsend Ave in the Bronx, where four men were gathered. Four individuals, two on each scooter, approached the group, with the rear passengers of the scooters firing 10 rounds, said NYPD Assistant Chief Benjamin Gurley during a media briefing.

The victims, aged between 23 and 37 years old, were shot in the leg, with one man fatally shot in the chest and succumbing to his injuries at a local hospital. The deceased victim was identified as a 29-year-old.

Following the shooting, the suspects wearing masks reportedly fled northbound on the scooters. While one male is currently in custody, authorities are uncertain about his connection to the incident, Gurley mentioned.

Law enforcement officials are actively searching for other suspects involved in the shooting. In response to the incident, a deputy commissioner announced the reinstatement of community response teams specialized in addressing crimes related to dirt bikes, ATVs, and illegal scooters.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and investigations into the incident are ongoing as authorities continue to piece together the events that transpired on the fateful evening in the Bronx.
