GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip – Eyewitnesses report that Israeli snipers in Gaza have fatally shot civilians as they attempted to flee the Nasser Medical Complex in southern Gaza. According to doctors and medical officials, the snipers have targeted people trying to leave the hospital over the past few days.
A trauma surgeon at the hospital, who chose to remain anonymous for security reasons, witnessed the shootings and stated that at least two people were killed by snipers on Tuesday, with more being shot and injured. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have ordered hospital staff and patients inside the medical complex to evacuate, claiming to have opened a secure route for civilians to leave. However, the surgeon reported that at least eight people trying to escape came under gunfire on Tuesday.
The surgeon’s account, shared with CNN by a colleague through voice notes, revealed that the medical teams at the hospital have been under intense bombardment for at least three days. Among those injured was a 16-year-old boy who was shot with four bullets at the hospital gate.
The Nasser Medical Complex stands as the largest remaining functioning medical facility in Gaza. The IDF confirmed its operation in the area of the complex to CNN, but did not directly respond to the allegations. Israel has maintained that its military forces do not target civilians, despite repeated incidents of civilian casualties. The situation in Gaza continues to escalate, with both Palestinian and Israeli casualties growing by the day. As the violence persists, the international community watches closely, calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the protection of civilians trapped in the conflict.
