Mom finds 9-year-old son shot to death while playing with friends

A mother lost her 9-year-old son, King Black, who was shot dead while innocently playing with friends at a home in East Point.

On Saturday night, Joy Black said goodbye to her son for the last time. She shared a heartwarming conversation with him as he left for a friend’s house, only to be hit with the news of his shooting moments later.

The East Point Police Department confirmed that King was shot at an East Washington Avenue home. Responding to the scene, officers discovered the child’s body lying outside the house.

Despite medical help, King did not survive the tragic incident.

Investigations show that the young boy was shot indoors, and somehow managed to stagger outside before passing away from his injuries. Police officials confirmed that while no arrests have been made, they are aware of all individuals involved in the shooting.

Authorities emphasized that the shooting was not at random.

Joy remembered her son as a vibrant fourth-grade student at Hamilton E. Holmes Elementary School, with a major passion for music. She recalls rushing to the scene, arriving at a house just a street behind their residence. When she got there, she found her 9-year-old son fighting for his life.

She hopes to lay her son to rest in their home state of Michigan. An online fundraiser has been made to help with the funeral expenses.
