Police said the two children, ages 3 years and 10 months, and the woman’s husband survived the early-morning attack.
NORTHLAKE, TX — A 37-year-old Northlake woman faces two counts of attempted capital murder and an aggravated assault charge after police said her husband and two young children were stabbed inside their Denton County home early Tuesday.
Northlake police identified the woman as Holly Leeann Flores. Officers responded to a home in the 1200 block of Daylily Drive at about 4:20 a.m. Oct. 6 after a man called 911 and reported that his wife had a knife and had stabbed him, according to police. Officers arrived within minutes and detained Flores. During a protective sweep of the home, they found a 3-year-old girl and a 10-month-old boy who had also been injured.
The 34-year-old husband suffered an injury to his head, while the two children had stab wounds to their chests, police said. Fire and emergency medical crews took the man and children to a Fort Worth hospital. Northlake Police Chief Robert Crawford said later Tuesday that he did not believe the children’s injuries were life-threatening and that they remained hospitalized for observation. He said he believed they would recover.
Flores was also taken to a hospital in Denton for observation and treatment of possible injuries, according to police. After she was treated and released, officers took her into custody and booked her into the Denton County Jail. Authorities said she faces two counts of attempted capital murder involving the children and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The charges are allegations, and the investigation remained underway.
Police have not announced a motive or detailed what investigators believe happened before the husband called 911. Crawford said Flores did not provide officers with much information after she was detained. Authorities also had not released a detailed account of the events leading to the stabbings as of Tuesday.
Crawford said officers had previously been called to the home about five times since March, with most of those visits involving welfare concerns. He declined to provide details about the earlier calls while detectives continued investigating the case. Police said the calls came from the residence rather than from neighbors. Authorities have not said whether those previous contacts were directly related to Tuesday’s incident.
Police believe Flores is the mother of the two children. Initial police statements and subsequent news reports differed on how firmly authorities had established some of the family relationships, and officials did not publicly provide additional documentation Tuesday. The children’s identities were not released.
The case brought officers and emergency crews to the Canyon Falls area before dawn and remained under investigation throughout Tuesday. Crawford described the incident as deeply difficult for the family and the first responders who encountered the injured children. Police did not announce additional arrests or identify anyone else as a suspect.
Flores remained in custody following her release from the hospital, according to police. Detectives continued processing information about the incident, and authorities said additional details could be released as the investigation progresses. No motive had been publicly established, and police had not announced further updates on when the husband or children might leave the hospital.
