One Brother Dead, Another Critical After Shooting

Houston police said a dispute between two brothers escalated into a shooting early Saturday at a southwest Houston residence.

HOUSTON, TX — One man is dead and his 40-year-old brother was hospitalized in critical condition after Houston police said a dispute between the siblings escalated into gunfire early Saturday at a home in southwest Houston.

Houston Police Department officers responded shortly after 1:27 a.m. to reports of a shooting at a residence in the 16600 block of Parkridge Court. Police said the brothers had been involved in an argument before both were struck by gunfire. Authorities have not released information about what started the dispute.

Police said the surviving brother was shot multiple times during the confrontation. Authorities said the 40-year-old suffered wounds to his head, arm and leg. Houston Fire Department personnel took him to a hospital, where police said he was listed in critical condition.

The other brother left the immediate area after the exchange of gunfire, according to police. Investigators said he ran roughly 100 yards from the residence before apparently shooting himself. Officers found him at a second location and pronounced him dead.

Police had not publicly confirmed the dead man’s identity or age as of Saturday morning. Authorities described him as appearing to be in his late 30s or early 40s. Officials also had not released the name of the hospitalized brother.

The circumstances leading to the gunfire remained unclear. Investigators had not announced what the brothers were arguing about or provided additional details about the events immediately before shots were fired. No motive had been established publicly.

The shooting left investigators examining two locations: the residence where police said the brothers exchanged gunfire and the nearby area where officers found the second brother. Police have not released further information about evidence recovered during the investigation.

Authorities also had not announced any criminal charges in connection with the incident. With one brother dead and the other hospitalized in critical condition, investigators continued working to establish the sequence of events and circumstances surrounding the dispute.

The Houston Police Department said the case remained under investigation Saturday. Further information, including official identification of the man who died, the condition of his hospitalized brother and what prompted the argument, had not been released.
