Severed body parts found near a school

BABYLON, NY – A shocking discovery was made by New York police late Thursday when they stumbled upon a woman’s dismembered head, arm, and leg. The officers were conducting a search for the missing body parts of a man on the outskirts of Southards Pond Park in Babylon, Long Island.

The search was initiated following a disturbing find by a young girl on her way to school. She discovered a severed arm on the side of a road on the east side of the park. This led to a comprehensive search, during which more body parts were found, including a right arm and a leg, both identified as male.

According to Detective Lieutenant Kevin Beyrer of the Suffolk County Homicide Squad, the search, which involved a canine unit, was halted late at night due to insufficient light. Investigators are currently working on identifying the owners of the body parts and their ages. Preliminary findings suggest they belong to an adult male and female.

Beyrer also mentioned that the body parts might have been there for a considerable time, possibly days or even hours. The search operation around the park’s outskirts is still in progress. Notably, the male body parts had tattoos, while the female’s did not.

Upon discovering the arm, the schoolgirl alerted her father, who subsequently called the authorities. The left arm was found to be missing its fingertips. Later that evening, a canine cadaver dog discovered the second arm, about 20 feet further into the woods from the original location.

Following the alarming incident, local schools moved their recess indoors. The school district has made mental health resources available to students, recognizing the potential distress caused by the incident, particularly among high school students.

This incident follows a similar one last month in the Bronx, where a severed human leg was found, believed to be from a man dragged by a subway. However, it remains uncertain whether the recent discovery in Babylon is linked to any gang violence in the area.
