Both workers were hospitalized in stable condition after the late-night Brooklyn shooting, and police were searching for two men.
NEW YORK CITY, NY — Two Amazon workers were shot late Sunday near the company’s fulfillment operation in Red Hook, Brooklyn, authorities and local news organizations reported, prompting a police search for two men who fled the area in a white sedan.
The shooting happened shortly after 11:15 p.m. Oct. 11 near Lorraine and Hicks streets, close to Amazon’s facility on Bay Street. A woman was shot in the chest and a 23-year-old man was struck in the shoulder, according to police accounts reported by several New York news organizations. Both were taken to a hospital and were listed in stable condition.
Investigators had made no arrests as of Monday, and police had not publicly established a motive. Authorities were looking for two men who fled in a white Nissan Altima after the shooting. No detailed descriptions of the men had been released in the reports reviewed Monday.
ABC7 New York reported, citing officials, that investigators believe the male worker may have been the intended target. The station reported that he had been walking from a bus stop toward the Amazon facility with his girlfriend, who also works for the company. She was not injured.
The woman who was wounded had been returning toward the facility after visiting a nearby deli, according to ABC7 and other reports. Authorities did not believe she was an intended target, ABC7 reported. Published accounts differed on the woman’s age, and authorities had not provided a consistent figure across the reports available Monday.
Amazon said it was saddened by the shooting and was focused on supporting its employees. The company said it was working with the New York Police Department during the investigation and would continue cooperating with efforts to identify those responsible.
Some early accounts also differed on the hospital where the victims were treated and other details surrounding the incident. The reports consistently said, however, that both people survived the shooting and were in stable condition Monday. Police had not announced charges or identified any suspects.
The shooting occurred as New York City has recorded historically low levels of gun violence this year. The NYPD said Oct. 6 that the city had recorded 489 shooting incidents and 594 shooting victims through the first nine months of 2026, the lowest totals for that period in the department’s recorded statistics. The Red Hook shooting remained an active investigation despite that broader decline.
Police continued Monday to investigate what led to the gunfire and whether the attackers knew either victim. No arrest had been announced by late Monday, and authorities had not publicly disclosed evidence establishing a motive or a direct connection between the shooting and Amazon’s business operations.
