The Saturday night collision involved a motorcycle and a Nissan carrying several passengers, including children.
DEERFIELD BEACH, FL — Two people died and five others were injured after a motorcycle struck a car making a U-turn Saturday night on West Hillsboro Boulevard in Deerfield Beach, authorities said.
The crash was reported around 8:30 p.m. Sept. 12 in the 4000 block of West Hillsboro Boulevard. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue crews arrived to find an overturned vehicle and several critically injured patients. The severity of the scene prompted commanders to declare a Level 1 mass casualty incident and request additional rescue and transport units.
Traffic investigators said a 2017 Nissan Sentra was making a U-turn on Hillsboro Boulevard when it was struck by a 2022 Suzuki motorcycle. The impact caused the Nissan to overturn, according to authorities.
The motorcycle rider, identified by authorities as Maxwell Patel, died at the scene. An underage girl who had been riding in the Nissan was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.
The Nissan’s driver and an underage boy were transported to Broward Health North. Authorities said the boy was later flown to Broward Health Medical Center for additional treatment. Three other passengers in the Nissan — two adults and another child — also were taken to Broward Health Medical Center.
Authorities said the two hospitalized juveniles were in critical condition. Officials did not immediately release additional information about the conditions of the adults who were injured or identify the children involved in the crash.
Fire rescue officials initially reported one death and four injuries Saturday night as emergency crews worked at the scene. Investigators later provided updated information showing that a second person had died and that five people were injured.
Coconut Creek Fire Rescue assisted Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue during the emergency response. The crash also caused traffic disruptions along West Hillsboro Boulevard while crews treated patients and investigators worked at the scene.
Authorities have not released additional details about what led to the Nissan’s U-turn or other circumstances immediately before the collision. The deadly crash remained under investigation as officials continued reviewing the circumstances surrounding the impact.
