Tokyo, Japan – Thousands of packets of sliced white bread from the well-known Japanese brand Pasco are being recalled and refunded after the shocking discovery of rat remains in some of the products. The Pasco Shikishima Corporation has taken around 104,000 packs off the shelves following the unsettling finding of parts of a black rat in at least two packets.
Pasco bread is a household staple in Japan, commonly found in supermarkets and convenience stores throughout the country. Despite the alarming incident, there have been no reports of anyone falling ill from consuming the contaminated bread, as confirmed by Pasco in a recent statement.
Expressing deep regret for the inconvenience caused, Pasco vowed to enhance its quality control measures to prevent such incidents from recurring. The company suspended the assembly line at its Tokyo factory where the contaminated bread was produced. It has also set up a refund application form on its website for affected customers.
In addition to Japan, Pasco’s products are also exported to various countries including the US, China, Australia, and Singapore. This incident stands out in Japan, known for its stringent sanitation standards, as food recalls are rare in the country. Despite this, recent health scares involving food have been reported, such as students falling ill after consuming tainted milk in Miyagi prefecture.
