Woman killed by armed robbers during home invasion

HOUSTON, TX – A woman’s life was tragically cut short during a violent encounter at an east Houston apartment complex on Sunday night. The Houston Police Department reports that the woman was killed during a shooting that erupted when men attempted to rob her husband. The incident unfolded around 9:50 p.m. near Fleming Drive by the East Freeway in the Northshore area.

The police are currently investigating the incident, which they believe started as a home invasion. Upon responding to a call of shots fired, officers came to the scene and discovered a chilling scenario. Two men had reportedly tried to rob a couple at the apartment complex.

The police report indicates that a gunfight broke out during the attempted robbery. The wife courageously tried to protect her husband by shooting at the robbers. However, a struggle ensued and the woman was fatally shot. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The husband, who was unharmed, tried to apprehend the men, but they managed to flee.

Crime scene investigators have not yet recovered a weapon, according to HPD Lt. Stephen Casko. At the time of the incident, the apartment was empty except for the couple, but two children were outside the home. The husband told police that he recognized the men, but the details of their relationship are still unclear.
